Bonnie Jones

Wallowa canyonlands partnership field coordinator

Bonnie received her BS degree in Environmental Science from Oregon State University and started her natural resource career in the forest sector, where she coordinated the sustainability certification for 250,000 acres of timberland and seven sawmills in the Pacific Northwest. She brings experience with implementing technology and process improvement, landscape restoration, and livestock and wildlife management.

She deployed as a search and rescue K9 Handler with her German Shepherd, Sarah, and used the wet, westside forests of northwest Oregon as her playground for solo backpacking, foraging, and elk hunting. Life kept tugging her eastward, and one day, while gathering cattle out of Applegate Canyon on the remote northern edge of Wallowa County, she finally decided to make the leap from the Willamette Valley. She loves the local lifestyle of tying hard work, resilience, and resourcefulness into daily life and the wholesome, family-oriented culture of the community.

Bonnie keeps busy tending a flock of wool sheep, volunteering, and learning the intricate craftsmanship of leather carving. She is passionate about integrating traditional homesteading skills into modern life and supporting a land ethic for coming generations to be connected to the landscape.
